GIRARD -- A banquet will be May 12 in Vernon's Banquet Center to honor Niles native Kandace Kocjan, who is completing her term as Miss SNPJ 2001.
Kocjan, 22, won the title at Slovenefest in July 2000. Since then she has traveled the country promoting SNPJ, a Slovenian fraternal organization which sells insurance.
The Ohio State University graduate is a substitute teacher working toward her master's degree in secondary education.
Contestants in the Miss SNPJ pageant were judged in four areas: evening gown; personality and communication skills; talent; and community service and SNPJ activities.
The titles of Miss Talent, Miss Activity, Miss Fraternalism and Miss SNPJ are awarded during the pageant. Kocjan was the first contestant in 44 years to win all four.
