Man awaiting trial released from jail

YOUNGSTOWN -- Wayne P. Gilliam, 19, of Castalia Avenue, was released Friday afternoon from the Mahoning County Jail, where he was awaiting trial on drug charges.
Gilliam was being held on a $100,000 bond after being indicted two weeks ago by a county grand jury on charges of complicity to trafficking in marijuana and trafficking in crack cocaine.
The bond was set by Judge Robert P. Milich of Youngstown Municipal Court. It was higher than bonds normally set for drug charges because he was charged with the offenses while out on bond for a murder charge.
The same grand jury that indicted him on the drug charges declined to indict him last week on the murder charge. When that charge was dismissed, prosecutors said they could no longer justify the higher drug bond.
In a short hearing Friday morning, Judge James C. Evans of common pleas court reduced the bond to $25,000, and said Gilliam could be released from jail if he posts 10 percent.
