WARREN Mahoning River shoreline slated for volunteer cleanup
WARREN -- Cleanup efforts along the Mahoning River are being planned to improve the the riverfront.
Volunteers can gather at 9 a.m. April 28 at Warren's historical First Presbyterian Church, 256 Mahoning Ave. N.W. The event lasts until noon.
Light refreshments will be served at the church and volunteers will view the Mahoning River Consortium's 20-minute educational video about the river.
Cleanup will target the area between the log cabin downtown to Club Fiesta, just past the Summit Street bridge.
It is being sponsored by the Mahoning River Consortium, the Mahoning Valley Association of Churches and the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District.
The river cleanup begins at 10 a.m., and the solid waste district will provide gloves, trash bags and safety materials.
Participants are encouraged to wear heavy shoes or boots.
Groups will depart from both the log cabin and Club Fiesta, meeting up at the midpoint of the Riverwalk where a bin will be placed to dispose of trash. Recyclable materials should be separated.
A post-cleanup social is planned at noon at Club Fiesta.
Volunteers can park there or at the church.
