SHARON Residents need help for flooding

SHARON, Pa. -- Some South Myers Avenue residents want the city to help them get rid of the lake that forms in their back yards during heavy rain.
Diana Murphy of 333 S. Myers Ave. said her yard and that of her neighbors at 343 S. Myers Ave. flood when it rains hard, and she presented city council with a picture of the pond, showing an 11-year-old boy knee-deep in brown water.
Murphy said she is concerned because her 4-year-old son loves water and she fears he could wander into the area when it floods.
Even in lighter rains, the ground becomes "soft and mushy," she said.
She asked if the city could install a drainage system to allow the water to flow away rather than accumulate in their yards, noting that another neighbor told her the city installed a drain in her back yard several years ago to alleviate a similar problem.
Mayor Robert T. Price said the city will investigate the request.
