RAYMOND E. MARTIN, 82
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Old Springfield United Church of Christ for Raymond E. Martin, 82, of 11297 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road, who died Wednesday at home.
Mr. Martin was born Jan. 7, 1919, in North Lima, a son of Alpheus and Lilly Price Martin, and lived in the area all his life.
He was a construction worker 27 years with the Edward J. DeBartolo Corp., Boardman, and Stebelton Construction Co. in New Middletown and retired in 1984.
He was a member of the church, where he was employed as custodian, sang in the choir and had served as an elder and Sunday school superintendent.
He was a charter member of the New Middletown Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad and was a 17-year member of Mall Walkers at Southern Park Mall.
His wife, the former Helen Sipe, whom he married Dec. 24, 1940, died April 21, 1995.
He leaves two daughters, Nonnie McGarry of North Lima and Debbie Minetti of New Middletown; a son, Ken of New Middletown; two sisters, Hester Cellio of Austintown and Martha Bell of Leetonia; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home in Poland and one hour before the service Saturday in the church.
Contributions may be made to the church memorial fund or Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Department, Station No. 1, Struthers Road, New Middletown.
