JAMES O. SMITH JR., 57 JAMES O. SMITH III, 24



EAST PALESTINE -- Combined services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home for father and son James O. Smith Jr., 57, and James O. Smith III, 24, both of 3811 Page Road, Morrisville, N.C., formerly of East Palestine, who died Monday of injuries suffered in a two-car accident on I-40 near Durham, N.C.
James Jr. was born Nov. 2, 1943, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of James O. and Virginia R. Fiets Smith Sr., and lived in East Palestine several years before moving to North Carolina three years ago.
He attended Beaver Local High School, served in the Army, and had worked for Babcock & amp; Wilcox Tubular Products in Beaver Falls, Pa., and also was a truck driver for area freight companies.
He was a a member of VFW Post 2799 in New Springfield and Loyal Order of Moose 467 and American Legion Post 31, both in East Palestine.
He leaves his mother, of Rogers; his wife, the former Dorothy J. Sandoe; a daughter, Dorothy Smith of Raleigh, N.C.; five brothers, Roy J. of Selma, N.C., Wayne E. and Warren D., both of Rogers, Larry A. of Wellsville and Gerald E. of Winona; two sisters, Mary J. McPherson and Edna L. Stanley, both of Rogers; and a granddaughter.
Two brothers, Johnny Lee and Richard Lee, are deceased.
James III was born April 15, 1977, in Salem, a son of James O. and Dorothy Sandoe Smith, and had lived in East Palestine most of his life before moving to North Carolina last year.
He graduated from East Palestine High School, had attended Youngstown State University, and was a mechanic with Hertz Rentals in the Raleigh-Durham, N.C., area. He was a member of Sons of the American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1506, both in East Palestine.
Besides his mother, he leaves his wife, the former Kristi J. Hall, whom he married Aug. 28, 1999; a daughter, Erica J. Smith, at home; a sister, Dorothy Smith of Raleigh; and grandparents, Virginia R. Smith of Rogers and Clyde and Margaret Sandoe Jr. of East Palestine.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
