YOUNGSTOWN -- Anyone with information about the whereabouts of 16-year-old William Brewer of North Bon Air Avenue is asked to contact the Youngstown Police Department juvenile division at (330) 742-8960. The boy has not been seen since March 23. He is 6 feet tall, 160 to 165 pounds with red hair and brown eyes.
Woman found dead
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 46-year-old woman was found dead at her Avondale Avenue home Wednesday afternoon.
The body of Mary Ann Stredni-Slanina was found by her father, John, about 1:20 p.m. on her bed at 63 E. Avondale Ave.
Stredni told Youngstown police he had last seen his daughter alive that morning.
Police believe the woman died of natural causes. The Mahoning County Coroner's Office is investigating.
Essay contest for girls
YOUNGSTOWN -- Pupils have until Sunday to submit entries in an essay competition as part of the Women in Science and Engineering Career Workshop.
The winner will be named during the workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28 at Youngstown State University.
Morning sessions will be in Kilcawley Center, and afternoon sessions will be in Cushwa Hall and Ward Beecher Science Hall.
The workshop is designed to expose girls in grades six through 12 to career opportunities in science and technology.

Drug-charge indictment
CLEVELAND -- A federal grand jury has indicted Djuan D. Kimbrough, 25, of Carroll Street, Youngstown on two counts of distributing crack cocaine.
If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum of five years in prison and a $2 million fine or both.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration task force in Youngstown.
Sentenced to prison
YOUNGSTOWN -- Billy McGeorge, 24, of Parkwood Avenue was sentenced to four years in prison Wednesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court for felonious assault, reduced from attempted murder.
He shot Anderson Black in the chest and face during a fight near a tavern on Glenwood Avenue in December.
Three years were added because McGeorge used a gun, giving him a total seven-year sentence.
Bill about unpaid leave
CANFIELD -- City council heard first reading Wednesday of an ordinance which would allow employees to take up to one year of unpaid leave to care for immediate family members who are ill.
Adjustments to the employment policy are necessary to bring them in line with the federal Family Medical Leave Act, said Charles Tieche, city administrator.
The city's 21 nonunion employees would also be able to take a one-year advance on sick leave and vacation time.
The same privileges will be discussed with its police officers and dispatchers, Tieche said.
Seeking plan change
AUSTINTOWN -- Instead of a landscaped buffer of dirt and trees, developers want to build a fence around The Villas at Spring Lake off Fitch Boulevard.
D.E.B. Enterprises Inc. will formally ask township trustees at 6 p.m. Monday to change the plan.
The company says residents want the fence to provide more protection from people cutting through the property.
Administrator returns
YOUNGSTOWN -- Richard Groucutt retired four months ago as administrator of the city civil service office, but he's back.
The city is interviewing candidates to replace him, but civil service board members asked him Wednesday to write exams for fire department lieutenant and captain.
Groucutt said his fee will be similar to what he charges other local governments that hire him for similar work.
