GEORGE D. WHITMAN, 76

MASURY -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Washington Funeral Home, Farrell, for George D. Whitman, 76, of 8055 Addison Road, who died late Sunday in UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell.
Mr. Whitman was born June 28, 1924, in Madison County, Ala., a son of Harrison and Mary F. Ford Whitman.
He retired in 1991 as a crane operator for Sharon Steel Corp., where he worked 35 years. He attended New Hope Baptist Church, Farrell, had been a Mason, and was a member of Murray Bell VFW Post 7597 and Twin City Elks Lodge 187. He served in the Army during World War II.
His wife, the former Christine Wherry, whom he married April 20, 1951, died March 14, 1999.
He leaves a son, J.D. of Farrell; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A brother, Otis; a sister, Lucy M. Stone; and a great-grandson, are deceased.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until services at the funeral home.
