WARREN -- A man police think robbed the Second National Bank branch at 2595 Parkman Road in February is now behind bars.
Detective Al Bansky said Tyrone Thomas, 27, of Harmon Avenue N.W. has been arrested on a charge of robbery. Thomas pleaded innocent Monday in the municipal courtroom of Judge Thomas Gysegem.
Thomas is being held in the Trumbull County jail in lieu of a $75,000 fine. A preliminary hearing date has not been set.
The bank was robbed around 10:20 a.m. Feb. 13.
"We just kept working the case until we were able to find the person we believe was responsible," Bansky said. "It took us a few weeks but we didn't give up."
What happened: Police reports state that a man presented a note Feb. 13 to a teller demanding money. The teller gave an undisclosed amount to the man, who fled.
Police were at the bank a few minutes after the robbery was reported but were unable to catch the robber.
Police have declined to say what was written in the note or if a gun was used.
The bank's surveillance video camera was able to get a picture, but the face of the suspect was somewhat blurred, officials said.
"We've had two bank robberies in the past year and we were able to make arrests in both of those cases," Bansky stated.
The city's other bank robbery happened March 8, 2000, when the Jamestown Village Plaza branch of First Federal Savings & amp; Loan Association was robbed. Marcus Honzu, who was arrested moments after the robbery, pleaded guilty to four charges of aggravated robbery and two counts of felonious assault. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
