NILES -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Robert P. McDermott Memorial Home for Helen M. Kagarise, 86, of 126 S. Carnegie Ave., who died Sunday night in Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home after a short illness.
Mrs. Kagarise was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Niles, a daughter of John and Mary Rader Trimbur, and lived in the area all her life.
She graduated in 1934 from Niles McKinley High School and had worked at the Woolworth store in downtown Niles and as a secretary for the Stanley Works.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church here where she was active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship and Workers for Christ, taught Sunday school, was a member of the Sunday School Class and had assisted in the crib room.
She also was a member of the Child Conservation League, Demole Mother's Club, Ida McKinley Chapter 229 Order of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine Martha Chapter.
She was an election poll worker for more than 50 years and had also been president of the Cambria Club and a member of VFW 2074 Auxiliary and Niles Band Boosters, PTA and Football Mother's Club. She was a block leader during World War II.
Her husband, Robert, whom she married June 29, 1937, died Sept. 19, 1991.
She leaves a son, Robert E. of Niles; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A son, John E.; a sister, Fay Nash; and her stepfather, Jack Crooks, who reared her from age 2, are deceased.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the general fund of the church.
