BINGO/CARD PARTIES
XThe Altar and Rosary Society of St. Brendan Church will sponsor a card and bingo party and a style show beginning at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Maxwell Hall, 2800 Oakwood Ave. Tickets are $4 at the door and include lunch. XThe Altar and Rosary Society of St. James Church will hold a card and bingo party at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the auditorium of St. James School, 2016 Arbor St. S.E., Warren. The donation is $4 and includes refreshments. There will be a special raffle and a 50/50 raffle. Tickets will be available from any member or at the door.
XThe Altar and Rosary Society of Sts. Peter and Paul Croatian Church, 421 Covington St., will hold a bingo and card party from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the church. Refreshments will be served. The donation is $4.
XSt. Paul Altar Guild of St. Paul Church, Route 170, New Middletown, will sponsor its annual "Spring Fling" at 2 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5, and the event will feature refreshments, bingo, cards, door prizes and raffles.
SALES
XA rummage sale will be held at Braceville United Methodist Church, 577 Park Road S.W., Newton Falls, from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday and Friday. A light lunch will be available Thursday and bag day will be Friday.
XHowland United Methodist Church will hold its annual garage sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 27, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 28, at the church, 730 Howland Wilson Road N.E.
XA rummage and soup sale is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Old Springfield United Church of Christ, Route 170, New Middletown.
XSt. Rose Home and School Association is taking orders for its annual flower basket sale. Orders must be pre-paid and returned to the school, 61 E. Main St., Girard, or the church rectory, 48 E. Main St., before April 16. Geraniums, ivy geraniums, New Guinea impatiens and shade impatiens are available in a variety of colors at $16 each. Pickup will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. May 11 at the school gym.
XTru-Mah-Col, Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana local affiliate of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, will sponsor the Francie Kerpsack Scholarship Fund Book Fair from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Michael Church, 281 Glenview Road, Canfield. In celebration of the month of the young child, books for children and young adults will be available along with books on parenting. Richard Theiss, former Disney animator, will read "Pinocchio" and other stories at 1:45 p.m. and 3:15. A portion of the sales will go to the Francie Kerpack Scholarship Fund.
SPECIAL EVENTS
XChoffin School of Practical Nursing will present a program, "A Healthy Start Leads to a Healthy Lifestyle throughout the Lifespan," from 9 a.m. to noon April 24 at McGuffey Centre, 1649 Jacobs Road, Youngstown. The Ohio Commission on Minority Health is funding the program. Speakers will be Dr. Karla McNair, pediatrician, who will speak on "Complications of Childhood Obesity," and Ruth Bell, registered nurse and nurse practitioner, whose topic will be "Poison Safety in the Home." Choffin students will participate in a panel discussion on healthy lifestyles. A health fair will offer information on immunizations, exercise, skin care, healthy snacks and diet and health screenings.
XOhio Historical Society Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor will conduct a children's program, "April Showers Bring May Flowers," from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the center, 151 Wood St., Youngstown. Participants will learn about Victorian flower lore, make a tussy-mussy and teapot flower pot and plant flower seeds. The cost is $10 for OHS members and $12 for non-members. XNew Millennium Club is sponsoring a day trip to Mountaineer Race Track and Gaming Resort in Chester, W.Va., May 19.
