NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A Lowellville man was in fair condition today in a Pittsburgh hospital after an accident.
Phillip Alfano Jr. of Jackson Street was flown Saturday afternoon to University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Pennsylvania State Police said Alfano was on U.S. Route 224 near Fording Road in Union Township around 11 a.m. when a car in front of him stopped to turn.
The motorcycle hit the car and Alfano rolled off onto the berm.
A car behind him steered onto the berm to avoid the wrecked vehicles and hit Alfano, who was trapped under the car until firefighters rescued him.
He was wearing a helmet.
Burglary foiled
YOUNGSTOWN -- A businessman stopped a break-in at his company, Brilex Industries, about 6:40 p.m. Sunday.
Brian Benyo told police he was driving on Interstate 680 to the Crescent Street business when he saw a pickup truck there that didn't belong in the lot.
He found the gate smashed in, and the pickup, with two men inside, came around the corner of the building, stopped and went back toward the rear.
Benyo blocked the gate with his vehicle and called 911.
Police found the pickup smashed into the fence and the men gone. A toolbox and grinder were in the pickup.
The building's rear door was open and a welder was loaded on a forklift.
The steering column on the pickup was damaged, but the vehicle had not been reported stolen.

Armed robbery
AUSTINTOWN -- Armed robbers emptied a cash register and stole a money bag containing $105 from the Subway restaurant on Raccoon Road.
The robbers, both described as men in their early 20s, first entered the restaurant at about 4:30 p.m. Friday. One stood at the counter and asked about salads and the other used the restroom, reports say.
When they returned about an hour later, one man held a handgun to the clerk's head. They pushed the clerk into the meat cooler, where she remained until a customer found her about 20 minutes later, reports say.
