WHEATLAND, Pa. -- Two men accused of leading a half-dozen police departments Friday on a high-speed chase from Ohio into Pennsylvania remained in Mercer County Jail today in lieu of $65,000 each.
Matthew Henry, 20, of Dutch Lane, Hermitage, the driver of the car, and his passenger, Joshua Yost, 20, of McClure Avenue, Sharon, are being held on charges of being fugitives from justice, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy.
More charges possible: Henry also could face a long list of traffic violations related to the 16-mile chase, which began just before 2 p.m. Friday in Vernon Township, Ohio, and ended at Broadway and Mercer avenues in Wheatland when the fleeing car collided with two vehicles.
The Trumbull County sheriff's office instigated the chase after answering a burglary-in-progress call on Bradley-Brownlee Road.
The chase led south to Brookfield and then east into Sharon, Hermitage, Farrell and Wheatland.
The only charges filed against Henry and Yost as of today came from the Southwest Mercer County Regional Police Department, which investigated the accident in Wheatland.
Southwest police said items found in the car are believed to have been stolen in the Vernon burglary.
Sharon police said they probably will add traffic charges against Henry this week.
Calls to the Trumbull County sheriff's office seeking information on the chase were not returned.
Two injured: There were only two injuries in the chase, which police said reached speeds of 100 mph.
Kimber and Lamar Gibson of Bennington Road, Youngstown, were in one of the cars struck by the fleeing auto at Mercer and Broadway avenues. The impact flipped their car onto its roof, but they were able to crawl from the wreckage.
Both were treated at UPMC Horizon, Farrell.
