COLUMBIANA CORNER Famous duo keeps priorities straight
When famous Washington, D.C., journalists Cokie and Steven Roberts visited Mount Union College last week, some of the discussion centered on the fact that they've sustained a mixed-faith marriage for 34 years.
They also often don't see eye-to-eye politically, they said, but focus instead on their shared values.
During a question and answer period, a woman told Cokie Roberts that when her 5-year-old granddaughter doesn't want to go to church, she often excuses herself because of Cokie's Sunday morning talk show, in which she is co-host with Sam Donaldson.
"She says 'I have to watch Cokie and Sam!'" the woman said.
"You tell her I go to church on Sunday," said Cokie, who is Catholic.
Steven, who is Jewish, quickly chimed in, his arm around his wife. "She does the show, and then she has to go and confess her sins."
It's in the name: Officials at the Carroll-Columbiana-Harrison Joint Solid Waste Management District found a way to promote recycling when formulating a title for their web site. It's called www.RecyclingMakesSense.org.
Good terminology: Appropriately enough, the medical puns were in plentiful use recently when Kent State University held a press conference to announce it was transferring its bachelor's degree nursing program from KSU's East Liverpool campus to its Salem facility.
Paul Gaston, KSU provost, peppered his speech with references to sutures and finally offered, "We have a successful operation here this morning and the prognosis is bright."
