KOREAN WAR Names sought to add to memorial

Those who served elsewhere in the designated time period are eligible.
WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. -- Mercer County Korean War veterans have invited veterans of that conflict from other parts of the region to have their names inscribed on the Veterans' Memorial on state Route 318 in Shenango Township.
Anyone in the military service between June 1950 and July 1953 is eligible to have his name placed on the memorial, located just a few feet from the Ohio line.
The memorial has a granite wall with the names of 46 Mercer County veterans who died in that conflict listed on one side and the names of 300 other county veterans who served in Korea on the other.
Additional space: The plan is to add another wall to the memorial, based on requests from veterans or members of veterans' families from outside the county. There will be a section for those killed in Korea and a section for those who made it home.
About 150 veterans have already expressed interest in having their names added.
As many as 400 names can be placed on the addition, which will be dedicated at Memorial Day services at the site on May 27.
Veterans don't have to have actually served in Korea during the war to get their name on the memorial but may have served elsewhere in the designated time period.
To have a name inscribed, veterans or their families must send a copy of their DD#214 as proof of service and a check for $60 to: Mercer County Korean War Veterans' Memorial, P.O. Box 1261, Hermitage, Pa., 16148. That price will be raised after April 30.
