HOWLAND FOP plans retirement dinner for police and the community

Police want to get to know the public they serve.
HOWLAND -- The township chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police is planning a retirement and recognition dinner for police officers and community members.
Jim Campbell, president of the FOP, said the event is designed to bring residents and police officers together. The dinner is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. May 24 at Leo's Ristorante, East Market Street.
Purpose: "We want the community to understand the commitment the police officers here have to the township and to have a better understanding of what we do every day," Campbell said. "This dinner will allow us to acknowledge the members of the police department who served to protect the area and to recognize members of the community for the contributions they have added."
Campbell noted that the names of those who will be recognized will be released before the dinner.
"This is a very positive event for the community," Police Chief Steve Lamantia said. "It will be a nice evening for everyone to get together and have time to get to know each other."
For tickets: Tickets for the dinner are $20 per person and can be purchased after April 15 at Leo's or at the Howland Police Department.
