SHARON, Pa. -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sample-O'Donnell Funeral Home for Betty J. Murphy, 81, of Clepper Manor, formerly of 2183 Revere Drive, Hermitage, Pa., who died in the manor following an extended illness Friday.
Mrs. Murphy was born Jan. 9, 1920, in Sharon, Pa., a daughter of William and Bessie Briggs Abernathy.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women and The More the Merrier classes. She was a member of Farrell Court #156, Order of the Eastern Star and the No Name Yet Card Club for Women.
She was a 1938 graduate of Sharon High School.
She had worked in the Westinghouse Electric Corp. cost accounting department and later retired from the Whitmer-Smith Department Store in the mid-1980s.
Her husband, Richard, whom she married Nov. 14, 1956, died July 21, 1983.
She leaves a stepdaughter, Geraldine McNeelege of Reynolds, Pa.; three grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Jack Abernathy and George Abernathy Sr., and three sisters, Isabele Baxter, Ruth King and Margaret Caldwell, are deceased.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
