BASEBALL Leonard fashions no-hitter for Cards



Scott Wadman belted two homers as Canfield won the nightcap to sweep a doubleheader from Southeast.
RAVENNA -- Dan Leonard pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and four walks, and supported his cause by cracking a homer, as Canfield High blanked Southeast 3-0 in the opener of a baseball doubleheader Saturday.
Leonard is now 2-1. Tom Banna slammed a run-scoring double and Chris Mullane had a run-scoring single to aid Canfield.
The Cardinals also went on to win the second game 7-2 behind Scott Wadman's two solo homers. Wadman also walked twice.
Brent Hilliard socked a two-run homer for Canfield (8-5), while Blair Lang added two singles and one RBI.
Southeast fell to 5-6.
Chaney 10, Hubbard 6: HUBBARD -- Chris Hlinka homered and Juan Serrano, John Shaffo, Gary Boris and Jake Gossett had doubles, as Chaney used a 15-hit attack to defeat Hubbard.
Boris had three hits, while Hlinka drove in two runs and scored twice for the Cowboys. Each team is 3-4.
Marc Barca had a single and a triple for the Eagles.
West Branch 10-8, Salem 0-7: BELOIT -- Todd Mast had a homer and a triple in the opener, and the Warriors (7-4) used a five-run third to take the nightcap.
Matt Martig also homered for West Branch, while Drew Romigh added a double.
James Wilson doubled for the Quakers.
Boardman 3-11, Brunswick 4-8: BOARDMAN -- Junior Matt Repec hit a one-out grand slam in the last of the seventh inning of the nightcap, to give the Spartans an 8-3 record.
Repec and Tom Zetts each had three hits in the second game.
Repec had a triple and a double, while Mike Krieger singled twice in the first game.
Chris King also homered for the Spartans and Ryan Vaughn added a double.
The Blue Devils are 8-2.
