VIRGINIA M. YERIAN, 89 Was recognized for volunteering
POLAND -- A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. May 20 in Poland Presbyterian Church for Virginia M. Yerian, 89, of Shepherd of the Valley, formerly of North Main Street, who died Wednesday morning in the home.
Mrs. Yerian was born Nov. 5, 1911, in Youngstown, a daughter of L.E. and Harriet Russell Moreman, and was a lifelong area resident. She spent many winters in Hillsboro Beach, Fla.
A 1929 graduate of South High School, she received an education degree from Western Reserve University in Cleveland in 1933. She taught second grade in Youngstown schools for four years. She was a licensed insurance agent and corporate secretary for Moreman-Yerian Insurance for 23 years, retiring in 1974.
She became a member of the church in 1941, was a member of the Progress Study Club, a charter member of Poland Village Gardeners and a member of Trustee's Circle of the Butler Institute of American Art. She was also a member of Youngstown Club, Youngstown Country Club and Deerfield Country Club. She was recognized for volunteering more than 7,000 hours at the Boca Raton Community Hospital in Florida last year.
Her husband, John H., whom she married Dec. 29, 1934, died Feb. 1, 1975.
She leaves two sons, John H. Jr. and David C., both of Poland; a sister, Miriam Edie of Youngstown; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Carolyn Moreman and Mildred Darr, are deceased.
Friends may call one hour before the service in the church. Contributions may be made to the church endowment fund or the Capital Campaign for the new Boardman branch of YMCA. Arrangements are by Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home here.
