Holistic health offeredat Farrell facility
FARRELL, Pa. -- Primary Health Network and UPMC Horizon have joined forces to offer natural and holistic therapies.
The new Complementary and Integrative Medicine Center, on Likens Lane next to UPMC's Farrell hospital, offers consultation and assistance in blending alternative therapies with traditional medical practice.
"Our principal focus is to treat the whole person with an open-minded approach that focuses on each individual in a caring, comprehensive and coordinated manner. Our programs are intended to be an extension, not a substitute, for traditional medical practice," said Jack Laeng, Primary Health executive director.
The new program offers nutritional counseling, adolescent weight management, acupuncture, hypnotherapy for smoking and weight loss, yoga and therapeutic massage and classes in body alignment and tai chi.
It is being operated in collaboration with Meadville Medical Center's Mind-Body Wellness Center.
"Research has demonstrated a significant public acceptance of complementary and alternative treatment methods," said J. Larry Heinike, UPMC Horizon president and chief executive officer.
Dr. Robert Multari is the center's medical director and Linda Spanos is the clinical director.
