WARREN COUNCIL On the agenda

City council handled matters including these at Wednesday's meeting:
Agreed to allow Warren Rescue Mission to place a truck on city property at Main and South streets one day a month to distribute food to the needy. The rescue mission estimates it can serve 300-400 families each day and will secure liability insurance.
Held off voting on legislation that aims to regulate body piercing. Sherry Cox-Calloway, D-at-large, sponsored the legislation and has asked the law department to make changes. Council recently passed similar legislation, introduced by another lawmaker, banning body piercing.
Passed a resolution opposing the closing of the Warren office of the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services. Mayor Hank Angelo said at least 800 CSC Ltd. employees have recently visited the North Park Avenue office because of job losses that resulted when the company filed bankruptcy.
Passed a resolution expressing council's support for the Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods (ACTION), which is working on an economic development plan for the Mahoning Valley and organizing a retreat for community leaders. Council said it does not have the money to help the group's efforts but it wanted to show support.
Entered into a contract to provide maintenance of various software programs for the city's computer system for 2001, 2002 and 2003.
Heard a report from Terry Nicopolis, director of environmental services, who said his department has received a $14,500 grant to collect and recycle scrap tires.
Held for further discussion legislation to install a guardrail at a curve on Risher Road Southwest.
