Pulaski group seeks more ideas for park

NEW BEDFORD, Pa. -- Planners of a new community park in Pulaski Township say they need more public input.
About 21 people gathered Wednesday at the New Bedford Lions Club -- most residents of the New Bedford section of the township -- to talk about fund raising and what should be included in the park.
But they said they are going to need everyone's help to make it a success.
"We want to make sure everybody in the community has a voice in starting the park. This is a township-wide project, not just a New Bedford project," said Michael Mancuso, president of the New Bedford Lions Club and chairman of a temporary committee working on planning the park.
Lions Club members have proposed putting the club's eight acres of land in a trust and designating it a community park. The property is off Evergreen Road, about a half-mile from U.S. Route 422.
Wednesday was the second community meeting to gauge support for the project.
The group received a $5,000 state grant through state Rep. Frank LaGrotta of Ellwood City, D-10th, to get the project started.
Members of the temporary committee talked about using the money to survey the land and hiring an attorney to set up the trust. They also discussed the types of recreation they want in the park, such as walking trails, baseball fields, pavilions and playgrounds.
However, they need more input from the community before finalizing those plans, they said.
The committee is considering mailing survey forms to township residents for ideas.
