Turgeon new skipper for the Scrappers

NILES -- The Cleveland Indians announced today that Dave Turgeon will manage the Mahoning Valley Scrappers for the 2001 season.
Turgeon made his managerial debut last season for Cleveland's rookie league team, the Burlington Indians of the Appalachian League.
Chris Bando, originally selected to manage the Scrappers, moved on to the Akron Aeros (Double A) which created the opening for Turgeon.
The other members of the 2001 coaching staff will remain the same -- Ken Rowe and Rick Gutierrez. Rowe will serve as pitching coach.
Turgeon experienced a well-traveled playing career. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 22nd round of the June 1987 draft. The right-handed pitcher spent four seasons in the organization, highlighted by a Carolina League championship in 1989.
Following his stint with the Yankees organization he found success playing in Europe. He was a member of both the Holland and France national championship teams in 1991-92.
Turgeon played the next four seasons in Taiwan for the China Times Eagles and was named an all-star for three consecutive years. He moved back to North America and spent part of the 1998 season in the Baltimore Orioles organization with Triple A Rochester, before finishing his playing career with the Reynosa Broncos of the Mexican League.
Turgeon spent his off-seasons coaching fall baseball at the University of Connecticut at Avery Point. He graduated from Davidson College with a degree in history and was named All-Southern Conference three of his four years.
He is single and resides in Norwich, Conn., in the off-season. He has a son, Christian.
