CHARLES D. GERST, 68

YOUNGSTOWN -- Private services were conducted in Montclair, Calif., for Charles D. Gerst, 68, of 5577 Armsley St., Montclair, formerly of Youngstown, who died of cancer March 28 at home.
Mr. Gerst was born Jan. 31, 1933, in Youngstown, a son of Andrew and Dorothy Davis Gerst, and had lived in Montclair for 43 years.
He graduated in 1950 from Chaney High School and served in the Marine Corps, where he achieved the rank of sergeant. He taught school for Charter Oak Unified Schools in California before retiring in 1992.
He leaves his wife, the former Barbara Ann Williams; a daughter, Rebecca Galloway of Rialto, Calif.; a son, Charles of Solana Beach, Calif.; and two brothers, Robert of Youngstown and Andrew of Las Vegas, Nev.
Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Local arrangements were by Kinnick Funeral Home.
