WEATHERFIELD SCHOOLS Electrical contract approved for complex

Three students passed the senior proficiency test with honors.
MINERAL RIDGE -- The Weathersfield Board of Education has approved a $119,000 contract with Waynco Electric of Mineral Ridge for electrical work at the Joe Lane Sports Complex.
The board received bids from three companies for the $950,000 project, Superintendent Rocco Adduci said.
Waynco's bid may be reduced by $6,000 if a prefabricated installation is used, but board president Douglas Darnall said that will be left to architects.
Other matters: The board also approved Monday the purchase of new math textbooks totaling $52,005. Math books were last ordered in 1996. A panel of teachers began working on selection March 2, looking at 15 companies in the country before selecting the texts, the superintendent said.
Adduci said 50 percent of the district's students passed the state's senior proficiency test and three individuals passed with honors.
Architect Paul Riccuiti of Ricciuti Balog & amp; Partners of Youngstown, reviewed five plans for housing students and realigning, adding on to or constructing new buildings.
The state projects the district will reach peak enrollment in 2009-2010 of about 1,203 students, up 10 percent (103 students) from the current enrollment of 1,099.
He told the board that the Ohio State Facilities Commission assessment of the district buildings earlier this year resulted in a list of five suggested master plans based on enrollment and what the state considers to be the needed.
He noted that under state guidelines, any building that needs more than 67 percent improvement cannot be renovated. The middle school was evaluated as needing 90 percent improvement, Riccuiti said.
