FRANCES TAMARKIN MONUS, 78



YOUNGSTOWN -- Services were at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Levitt-Weinstein Memorial Chapel, West Palm Beach, Fla., for Frances Tamarkin Monus, 78, of Palm Beach, Fla., formerly of Youngstown, who died Saturday at home after a one-year illness.
Mrs. Monus was born Sept. 17, 1922, in Youngstown, a daughter of Jack and Pearl Sigel Tamarkin.
She attended Duke University and received a degree in home economics from Ohio State University. She completed an internship at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago and became a registered dietitian who worked in hospitals and volunteered in her field of expertise. Her culinary skills were widely recognized by her peers, and during her illness, she compiled a cookbook of her favorite recipes titled "Golden Oldies."
She was a member and president of Women's American Organization for Rehabilitation through Training (ORT) Youngstown Chapter, which supports ORT schools in 22 countries.
Besides her husband of 54 years, Nathan, she leaves a daughter, Susan Kalmar of Malibu, Calif.; a son, Michael of Elkton; a brother, Bertram Tamarkin in Florida; and two grandsons.
