Man charged with trying to kill ex-girlfriend

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police have charged a New Castle man with robbing and trying to kill his ex-girlfriend.
Corey James Kradel, 23, of Beckford Street was arrested Friday on charges of attempted criminal homicide, robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault and robbery of a motor vehicle. He is in Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
A police report said Kradel was waiting in the 19-year-old victim's car when she got in it to go home from work Thursday afternoon. He pulled her into the car and drove her, against her will, to a remote location in Lawrence County, the report says.
He pulled her out of the car, beat her on the head and bit her hand to force her to give him $135, the report says.
When the woman was lying unresponsive on the ground, he dragged her to a nearby swamp, placed her face-down in the water and drove away in her car, the report says. He later returned the car to her place of employment, the report says.
The woman was treated for her injuries at St. Francis Hospital.
