Heavy rains floodbuildings at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN -- Heavy rains Friday and Saturday flooded several buildings at Youngstown State University. Beeghly Center was hit worst, said Vince Sacco, YSU associate director of facilities. The lower level was flooded because drains could not handle rainwater channeled from the roof and landscaped areas surrounding the building.
Water was confined to the lower levels of Maag Library, Meshel and Fedor halls. "It didn't appear that any books were damaged; there was just a little water on the floor in Maag," Sacco said. In Meshel Hall, water was confined to the janitorial and mechanical offices. Cleanup is nearly complete and will have no impact on operations.
In Boardman, St. Charles School is closed today for cleanup of lower-level classrooms. The loss is set at about $20,000 after water damaged six classrooms and a hallway, and several lockers full of pupils' belongings and books. Classes will resume Tuesday.
