SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Mike Modano scored his second goal on a backhand shot with 2 minutes, 50 seconds remaining in overtime as Dallas ended the regular season with a 13-game unbeaten streak. San Jose's Mike Ricci scored his third goal on a deflection with 3.6 seconds to go in regulation, allowing the Sharks to clinch fifth place in the Western Conference with the point for an overtime defeat. Modano also had a short-handed breakaway goal with 5:43 remaining in regulation for the Stars, who haven't lost since March 11. His streaking backhanded shot in overtime fooled Evgeni Nabokov, who made 23 saves. Joe Nieuwendyk, Richard Matvichuk and Brenden Morrow all scored tying goals against San Jose, which blew three one-goal leads.
Red Wings 4, Avalanche 3
DETROIT -- Detroit set a franchise record with a 19-game undefeated streak at home. Brendan Shanahan, Vyacheslav Kozlov, Tomas Holmstrom and Mathieu Dandenault gave Detroit a 4-0 lead after two periods. Colorado scored three goals in the third, including Joe Sakic's second of the game with 1:10 remaining. The Red Wings have not lost at home since Dec. 27. They broke the record they shared with the 1931-32 and 1954-55 teams. The Red Wings rested Steve Yzerman, Igor Larionov and Larry Murphy while Colorado gave Patrick Roy, Peter Forsberg and Ray Bourque the day off. Detroit's Chris Osgood stopped 27 shots. David Aebischer made 26 saves for the Avalanche. Roy, who has won a career-best 39 games, is expected to play in Colorado's last regular-season game at Minnesota today.

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Kevyn Adams, Denis Shvidki and Paul Laus scored in a 1:26 span of the third period in the season finale for both teams. Florida's Pavel Bure, who leads the NHL with 59 goals, failed in his attempt to score 60 for the third time in his career. He was held without a point. Roberto Luongo stopped all 25 New York shots for his franchise-record fifth shutout of the season. Adams scored his 11th goal of the season at 9:59 of the third period, beating goalie Guy Hebert off a rebound. Shvidki scored 17 seconds later, and Laus added his first goal of the season.

MONTREAL -- Martin Brodeur got his ninth shutout of the season as New Jersey clinched first place in the Eastern Conference. Brodeur stopped 21 shots for his 42nd win as the Atlantic Division champions finished 48-19-12-3 for 111 points. New Jersey got goals from and Scott Niedermayer and Sergei Brylin.

BOSTON -- Joe Thornton scored twice and Byron Dafoe stopped 29 shots for Boston. Roman Hamrlik and Tim Connolly scored and Rick DiPietro stopped 23 shots for the Islanders.
Senators 5, Maple Leafs 3
OTTAWA -- Wade Redden scored two goals and Patrick Lalime stopped 35 shots to lead Ottawa. Redden had the first of three Ottawa power-play goals in the opening period and added an insurance goal in the third. Alexei Yashin reached the 40-goal level for the second time in his career. Andreas Dackell and Jamie Rivers also scored for Ottawa. Shawn McEachern added two assists. Sergei Berezin had two goals for the Leafs. Yanic Perreault added a goal and two assists and Nik Antropov had three assists for Toronto. Curtis Joseph finished with 29 saves.
