LAWRENCE J. STAHL, 77

CORTLAND -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shafer-Winans & amp; Lamer Funeral Home for Lawrence J. Stahl, 77, of 195 E. Main St., who died Friday afternoon in St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Mr. Stahl was born Nov. 6, 1923, in Warren, a son of Lawrence and Julia Botos Stahl, and was a lifelong area resident.
He worked for General Motors 25 years before retiring in 1985, and was a captain in Cortland Police Reserves from 1970 to 1975.
He was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran, a licensed pilot and a member of McKinley Community Church, Warren, where he served as a deacon and trustee and was its choir director for 45 years.
Besides his wife, the former Helen Pease, whom he married Dec. 5, 1945, he leaves three sons, Richard of Cortland, James of Cape Coral, Fla., and Charles of Cortland; a daughter, Johanna Nichols of Cortland; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Julia Moore, and a brother, Stephen, are deceased.
Friends may call for two hours before services. Contributions may be made to the church.
