Police department
The Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police has identified the strengths and weaknesses of the police department during an organizational review:
STRENGTHS
Prompt response to requests for service.
Deals effectively with crime problems created by the transient population.
Handles enforcement functions well.
Has a core group of dedicated line employees.
Dedicated to the township.
Strong tradition.
Community support.
High level of education.
Good equipment.
WEAKNESSES/IMPROVEMENT AREAS:
Organizational dysfunction between management and rank-and-file officers who align themselves against management infighting.
Community adversely influenced by organizational dysfunction, creating a hostile work environment that results in a lack of respect for officers, chain of command and ultimately the public.
Internal strife, creating poor public perception that may adversely influence future support for a levy.
Consistent undermining of the chief's authority, resulting in retaliatory action by the chief.
Chief and two captains are involved in an internal power struggle.
Poor recruitment of women and minorities.
Union leader is a retired officer who has no stake in the department.
