RALPH D. LEMLEY, 90 R.D. Lemley Co. president; on school board
EAST PALESTINE -- Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home for Ralph D. Lemley, 90, of 51101 state Route 14, who died Wednesday in Otterbein Portage Valley Nursing Center, Pemberville, Ohio, where he was a patient for several months.
Mr. Lemley was born April 21, 1910, in Columbiana, a son of William and Ida Wagner Lemley.
A 1928 graduate of East Palestine High School, he was captain of its football team and later attended Youngstown College. He retired as president in 1979 from R.D. Lemley Co. and was director for First National Bank for 45 years.
He served 24 years on the East Palestine Board of Education in various capacities, and also served on the board of the East Palestine Cemetery Association and Salem Reformed Cemetery Association. He was a charter member and past president of the East Palestine Rotary Club and had been convention chairman of Rotary District 665. Also, he and his wife were hosts for several exchange students from Europe, Mexico and South America.
In his later years, Mr. Lemley developed the Lake View Manor Area near East Palestine. He was a former member of Covenant United Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder, Sunday school superintendent and president of the church congregation. He later joined Westminster Presbyterian Church in Boardman in 1968, where he served as elder, trustee and teacher, and was past president of the Leighninger Class.
He was a member of Masonic Chapter 417, Royal and Select Masons Council 123, Royal Arch Masons Chapter 204, Scottish Rite of Youngstown, Al Koran Temple of Cleveland and Youngstown Shrine Club.
His wife, the former Gladys E. Eichorn, whom he married Sept. 6, 1933, died May 27, 1998.
He leaves a daughter, Marsha J. Broadright of Bowling Green, Ohio; a son, Miles of Cleveland; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A son, Gary D., a brother and two sisters, are deceased.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
