JAMES STEWART COPELAND, 66 Youngstown Fire Department captain
YOUNGSTOWN -- Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Rising Star Baptist Church for James Stewart Copeland, 66, of 238 Lilburne Drive, who died Sunday in Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Mr. Copeland, who was known as Bill, was born May 19, 1934, in Embro County, N.C., a son of Vanderbilt and Savannah West Copeland, and came to this area in 1951.
He retired in 1991 as captain of the Youngstown Fire Department after serving 27 years and had also worked at U.S. Steel Corp. and in construction.
He was a member of Lovely Hills Baptist Church in Warrenton, N.C., and attended Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was a member of the Urban League, Police and Fire Retirees of Ohio and the NAACP and was an Army veteran.
Beside his wife, the former Jessie Belcher, whom he married July 28, 1981, he leaves four daughters, Gina Watson, Cynthia Walker and Barbara Traylor, all of Youngstown, and Billie Copeland of Akron; two sisters, Viola Windem Parker of Portsmith, Va., and Mable C. Copeland of Baltimore, Md.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Six brothers, Curley, Walter, Percy, Van, Arthur and Bernard; and three sisters, Elizabeth, Edith and Thennie Copeland, are deceased.
Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Black & amp; Phillips Funeral Home.
