ATTY. EDWARD G. PTASZEK Sr., 77 Was Ashtabula prosecutor, magistrate



JEFFERSON -- A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ducro Funeral Home here for Atty. Edward G. Ptaszek Sr., 77, of 38 E. Pine St., who died March 7 at his home in Winterhaven, Fla.
Mr. Ptaszek was born Feb. 6, 1924, in Cleveland, a son of Edward F. and Ann Ptaszek.
He graduated in 1941 from Cleveland John Hay High School, received a bachelor of arts degree from Hiram College in 1949 and his law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
He served in the Army Air Forces in the Pacific Theater during World War II and in the Army in Germany during the Korean War.
He was in private practice for 45 years and also was assistant Ashtabula County prosecutor and magistrate for Ashtabula County Common Pleas Court Domestic Relations and Juvenile division, and was Jefferson Village solicitor before retiring from public service in 1998. He was a member of the Ashtabula County and Ohio Bar associations.
He was Jaycees Jefferson Citizen of the Year in 1961, past exultant ruler of BPO Elks Club 208 in Ashtabula and a member of Jefferson Area Schools Parent-Teacher Organization, American Cancer Society and Jefferson Business Council and Exchange Club.
He served on boards for the Catholic Service League, Henderson Memorial Library Foundation in Jefferson and the United Appeal, and was credited with creation of the annual Jefferson Days Celebration.
He leaves his wife, the former Rose Anne (Rosina) Venetta; a son, Edward G. Jr. of Westlake; two daughters, Julie Anne Rose of Ashtabula and Sharon Rose Ptaszek of Richmond Heights; two sisters, Geraldine Raeuber of Jacksonville, Fla., and Vivian Caputo of Middleburg Heights; and two grandchildren.
A sister, Audrey Watkins, is deceased.
The family will meet friends at a reception in Jefferson United Methodist Church after the memorial service.
