AROUND THE NHL Wednesday's other games
Bruins 3, Sabres 2
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Jason Allison scored the eventual game-winner as the Boston Bruins survived a late scare against the Buffalo Sabres to remain tied for the Eastern Conference's eighth and final playoff spot. Mikko Eloranta and Brian Rolston also scored for the Bruins who blew a pair of two-goal leads in the third period but hung on for the win.
Hurricanes 3, Rangers 1
NEW YORK -- Jeff O'Neill had two goals and an assist, and Rod Brind'Amour had one of each as Carolina snapped New York's season-best four-game winning streak. Defenseman Marek Malik had three assists as the Hurricanes spoiled the Rangers' final home game of the season. Brind'Amour snapped a 1-1 tie with 6:04 left, converting a rebound of Malik's point shot for his 19th goal.
Maple Leafs 4, Islanders 2
TORONTO -- Darcy Tucker and Jonas Hoglund had a goal and an assist apiece for Toronto. Alyn McCauley and Gary Roberts also scored for the Leafs. Oleg Kvasha and Kenny Jonsson scored for the Islanders, who became the first team to finish 30th in the NHL. Finishing last gives New York the best chance at the top overall draft pick for the second straight season.
Stars 5, Predators 1
DALLAS -- Brett Hull scored his 39th goal and assisted on a goal by Mike Modano -- each coming 13 seconds into power plays -- as Dallas won in the final regular-season game at Reunion Arena. The Stars, who improved to 172-94-45 at the arena they've called home since moving from Minnesota in 1993-94, lifted their season-best unbeaten streak to 12 games. It matches the second-longest streak in franchise history.
Flames 5, Blackhawks 2
CHICAGO -- Craig Conroy scored two goals and Valerie Bure had three assists as Calgary defeated hapless Chicago. The victory, Calgary's second in 11 days against the Blackhawks, broke a three-game winless streak. Chicago extended its season-long winless streak to nine games (0-6-2-1-1), and has not won since March 15.
Mighty Ducks 1, Avalanche 1
DENVER -- Joe Sakic scored his 50th goal as Colorado continued its playoff tune-up. Paul Kariya, one of the lone bright spots in Anaheim's dismal season, scored the lone goal for the Mighty Ducks. Patrick Roy, still one victory short of his first career 40-win season, had 28 saves for the Avalanche, who clinched home-ice throughout the playoffs on Monday.
Oilers 2, Wild 2
EDMONTON, Alberta -- Doug Weight scored with 48 seconds left in the third period, giving Edmonton the tie with slumping Minnesota. Sergei Zholtok won a faceoff in the Minnesota end during a power play, and Weight's slapshot deflected off Minnesota's Filip Kuba and got by goaltender Jamie McLennan.
