WARREN Citizens Committee plans Easter egg hunt in city park

WARREN -- An Easter egg hunt is planned for Saturday at Packard Park to provide area children with positive activities because city parks are closed.
Jennifer Martinek, a member of Warren Citizens Committee, said the nonprofit organization formed last year when parks closed because of citywide budget cuts.
The committee organized the first egg hunt last year, with more than 400 children participating.
Martinek said she expects attendance this year will more than double.
State Sen. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-32nd, is expected to kick off the egg hunt, which will last from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Packard Park is on Mahoning Avenue N.W.
Martinek's husband, Brian, is a former city police officer who was furloughed when budget cuts were issued. He now works for the Girard Police Department.
Also on the committee is Jill Hetmanski, whose husband, Ed, was laid off from the police department last year but has since returned.
The two women have said the committee organized with the belief that the community cannot allow the city's fiscal problems to adversely affect children.
Events Saturday will include a costume contest for children. Those wearing Easter-related costumes will have the chance to win prizes to be awarded for different age groups. Pictures with the Easter bunny will be $1.
