PREP SOFTBALL Western Reserve scores 26 runs



Woodrow Wilson's Nicole Teasley threw a one-hitter against Youngstown Christian.
BERLIN CENTER -- Tiffany Palumbo hit two home runs and a triple, while Stacey Coudriet had a first-inning grand slam, as the Western Reserve High softball team defeated Southern Local, 26-2, Tuesday.
Palumbo, Coudriet and winning pitcher Micah Berger each drove in five runs for the Blue Devils (5-1).
Berger scored four times and threw a three-hitter as Western Reserve posted a 13-1 lead after one inning and made it 20-1 after two.
Ronda Barth, Berger, Jaclyn Speece, Teri Bader and Beth Aurin each had a double for Western Reserve. For the Indians (1-3), Nikki Meister tripled.
Struthers 2, Salem 0: SALEM -- Freshman Holly Hickenbottom had three hits and drove in both runs for Struthers (2-1, 1-0 Metro Athletic Conference) in the eighth inning.
Katy Shurilla and Michele Firmstone drew walks and advanced on a groundout to set up Hickenbottom's winning hit.
Winning pitcher Tina Palumbo struck out three and walked two.
For Salem (0-4, 0-1), Jill Barry hit two singles.
Canfield 6, Howland 0: WARREN -- Lindsay Gaudiose, Allison Morgan, Julie Playforth and Kelly Williams each had two hits for the Cardinals (2-3, 1-0 MAC).
Gaudiose (2-2) pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts.
Poland 15, Niles 0: POLAND -- Sara Knill (2-0) threw a two-hitter with no walks and eight strikeouts for the Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0 MAC).
Stephanie Russell, Jessie Lamport and Michelle Nespeca each had two hits for the Bulldogs, and Lamport had four RBIs.
Heidi Kimmel had a triple while Knill, Lamport and Nespeca each hit a double.
Niles is 0-4, 0-1.
Mathews 8, Springfield 3: NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Jaci Bahrey had a triple and a single while Sara Ockenfels and Jennifer Mines each had two hits for the Mustangs (1-0, 1-0 Inter-County League).
Jessica Snyder, Ashley Platt and Maggie Marsh each had two hits for the Tigers (3-1, 1-1).
Beaver Local 4, South Range 1: LISBON -- Winning pitcher Vicki McCoy struck out 11 batters and walked two. Katie Pastore's two hits included a double.
For South Range (3-3), Jenn Toth had three hits.
Wilson 20, Youngstown Christian 5: YOUNGSTOWN -- Winning pitcher Nicole Teasley threw a one-hitter and doubled in the opener for both teams.
Dana Pecchia broke up the no-hit bid with a sixth-inning single.
Mandy Crespo had four hits and three RBIs while sophomore Jessica Martinez had two hits and six RBIs. Natalie Lopez and Bedria Rosario had two hits apiece.
Chaney 7, Girard 0: GIRARD -- Buzzaco had two singles and a double while Bezeredi tripled for Chaney.
Mshar limited the Indians (1-3) to two hits, one a double by Maria Kait.
