JOHN B. COLEMAN, 83



YOUNGSTOWN -- Services will be at noon Thursday in Mount Gilead Baptist Church for John B. Coleman, 83, of 417 W. Chalmers Ave., who died March 29 in St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Mr. Coleman was born Dec. 24, 1917, in Talladega, Ala., a son of the Rev. Burl and Matilda McGee Coleman, and came to this area in 1948.
He was a boiler technician for U.S. Steel Co. for 32 years before retiring in 1980. He was a member of the church and its Male Chorus and was its pianist. He also was a member of the United Male Chorus Union.
He was a decorated Army veteran of World War II. Among his medals were the European African Medal, Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the American Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
Besides his wife, the former Cora Lee Daniels, whom he married Aug. 11, 1979, he leaves three sons, David and Lewis, both of Savannah, Ga., and Joseph of Youngstown; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A brother, Oscar; and seven sisters, Leola McClean, Ollie Curry, Jessie Paige, Cora Harris, Claudia Howell, Dorothy Smith and Lillie B. Richardson, are deceased.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the church, where there will be a musical tribute.
