Elections board: Rush roof repairs
WARREN -- The Trumbull County Board of Elections will ask Trumbull County commissioners to expedite roof repairs at its building on Youngstown Warren Road.
Deputy Director Lyn Augustine said the building's roof is leaking in several places in the rear section where voting equipment is kept and that the soggy ceiling tiles pose a health hazard to employees as well as a potential threat to election equipment.
"Although the roof was replaced seven years ago, we've had problems with leaks for about a year and a half," Augustine said.
Augustine said Commissioner James Tsagaris has been talking with the roofing company and "staying on top of things," but repairs were put on hold during the winter.
"The roof is actually still under warranty, so it shouldn't cost us anything to get it fixed," Augustine said.
Other updates: At its budget hearing earlier this year, the board asked commissioners to OK funding for several building updates, such as new carpeting and new doors.
Commissioners approved and the new carpeting, which cost about $9,500, is in place, but the board is still waiting on the new doors.
"I haven't heard anything recently about when we'll get the new doors," Augustine said.
The building used to be an A & amp;P grocery store and still has the old double doors that were used then.
