BETTY J. VARKONYI, 74

BOARDMAN -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Kinnick Funeral Home, Youngstown, for Betty J. Varkonyi, 74, of The Greenbriar, formerly of West Glen Drive in Boardman, who died Monday morning in Saint Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown.
Mrs. Varkonyi was born Aug. 30, 1926, in Youngstown, a daughter of Harry and Edna Meeker Berndt, and was a lifelong area resident. She was a homemaker and bowled at Westside and Wedgewood Lanes.
Her husband, Joseph E., whom she married Feb. 18, 1950, died Nov. 7, 1989.
She leaves two sons, Richard of Girard and Gary of Cleveland; four daughters, Sandra Childers of Boardman, Joann Pershing of Youngstown, Nancy Varkonyi of Mesa, Ariz., and Linda Sanchez of Scottsdale, Ariz.; five sisters, Eleanor Youngblood of Liberty, Dolores Merill of Puyallup, Wash., Harriet Vollmer and Mabel Eynon, both of Austintown, and Donna Klenitch of Boardman; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Leona Varkonyi, and a sister, Pauline Kanos, are deceased.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
