REV. FRED DAYE JR., 74 Asst. pastor of Phillips Baptist Church



YOUNGSTOWN -- Services were to be at noon today in Temple Emmanuel Seventh-day Adventist Church for the Rev. Fred Daye Jr., 74, of 94 E. Marion Ave., who died early Thursday at the Lewis Stokes Medical Center-Wade Park Division, Cleveland.
The Rev. Mr. Daye was born April 20, 1926, in Oxford, N.C., a son of Fred Sr. and Sarah Blalock Daye, and lived in this area most of his life.
He was assistant pastor of Phillips Memorial Baptist Church. He also was a platform worker for LTV Steel for 34 years and was a self-employed carpenter. He was a former Mason and served in the Army during World War II.
Besides his wife, the former Ruby L. Hardy, whom he married Nov. 24, 1959, he leaves two sons, Curtis O. Daye and Carl A. Hardy, both of Youngstown; six daughters, Clara M. Daye, Angel A. Daye and Darlene Ivy, all of Youngstown, Starling P. Hardy of Denver, Brenda L. Gray of Akron and Pearlene Daye of Huntsville, Ala.; a brother, Eddie Daye of Youngstown; two sisters, Willa Mae Gupton and Susan Daye, both of Youngstown; 52 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Two sisters, Hazel Wilson and Sarah Bowden, and a brother, Ellis E. Daye, are deceased.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until noon today in the church. Arrangements are by Mason Funeral Home.
