YOUNGSTOWN -- The city's proposed new requirement that houses being sold undergo lead hazard inspections with disclosure of results to the buyer will be the topic of Neil Altman, city health commissioner, at an April 18 lead abatement forum.
The forum will be at 7 p.m. in the St. Dominic Parish Center, 3403 Southern Blvd. Other topics will include the hazards of childhood lead poisoning, lead abatement methods and funding for lead abatement.
Reimbursing for plants
CANFIELD -- Homeowners in the Mill Creek and Yellow Creek watersheds can receive cash reimbursements for their purchase of wetland plants from the Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District until Monday.
The wetland-pond habitat plant packets include three of each of these species: pussy willow, red osier dogwood, buttonbush, nannyberry and silky dogwood. The MSWCD says these species help reduce erosion near streams, ponds and wetlands and provide food for wildlife.
For more information on the purchase or to participate in the riparian tree planting cost-share program, contact Heather Moser, watershed coordinator, at (330) 533-2231.
