CORTLAND Council will seek bids on street, curb projects
Cortland won't become a member of the Warren-Trumbull Home Consortium.
CORTLAND -- Council will have a special meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday to advertise for bids for this year's street resurfacing and curb replacement projects.
"We have a resolution to advertise for bids but we need to put a dollar figure in that resolution," said Councilman Frank Stocz said Monday night. "We need a figure in the ordinance so the companies will know how much we are willing to spend before they bid."
Stocz said council will have the resolutions with the dollar amount ready by the special session.
Rejected ordinance: Council rejected an ordinance authorizing the city to enter into a joint cooperative agreement with Warren-Trumbull Home Consortium.
If lawmakers approved the ordinance, they would have been able to apply for U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funding.
Council members Deidre Petrosky and Gerald Bayus said they voted against the proposal because consortium membership would open the door for HUD to possibly build a low-income housing project in the city.
Council also gave first reading to an ordinance authorizing Mayor Melissa Long to enter into a contract with Thomas Fok & amp; Associates of Youngstown for professional services required for the replacement of 380 feet of sanitary sewer and 150 feet of waterline along Walnut Street. The ordinance must pass two additional readings before it takes effect.
Council declined to pass the ordinance as an emergency because they have not had a chance to review the contract, Bayus said.
