ARTHUR R. MARSHALL, 86 Member of 2 old-timer halls of fame



HUBBARD -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Presbyterian Church here for Arthur R. Marshall, 86, of 3304 Lewis-Seifert Road, who died Sunday afternoon at home.
Mr. Marshall was born Oct. 8, 1914, in Hubbard, a son of Issac G. and M. Mae Snyder Marshall, and lived in Hubbard all of his life.
A 1932 graduate of Hubbard High School, he worked for William B. Pollock Company for 43 years before retiring in 1979 as a welding supervisor.
He was a 50-year member of the church and was a member of Hubbard Men's Garden Club. He was also a member of St. Alban Masonic Lodge 677 for 50 years and served on the degree team. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite.
He was a member of Youngstown Old Timers Baseball Hall of Fame and was its King of the Realm in May 2000, and was a member of Penn-Ohio Old Timers Hall of Fame.
He tried out for the Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals as a left-handed baseman. He played for various AA teams in the area and with Youngstown Old Timers at Cooperstown, N.Y. He was manager of Hubbard Little League for many years and was a batboy when Babe Ruth made an appearance in the area in the 1930s.
Besides his wife, the former Helen M. Quigley, whom he married May 27, 1939, he leaves a daughter, Nancy McAfoose of Hubbard; a sister, Ula Haggerty of Hubbard; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson.
Three brothers, Holmes, Alfred and Gerald, and a sister, Velma Fluhr, are deceased.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kelley-Robb Funeral Home and one hour before the service Thursday in the church. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Trumbull County, 219 North River Road N.W., Warren 44483.
