HOWLAND -- A 31-year-old Warren man was arrested on charges of armed robbery and auto theft after being accused of robbing the Papa John's Restaurant, Elm Road, and stealing the manager's car.
The man was in Trumbull County Jail this morning, scheduled to appear in municipal court today.
Township police reports state that the man went into Papa John's around 2:26 a.m. Saturday demanding money. The man left with cash and stole the manager's car, police said.
An employee of the restaurant ran to Patrolman Tim Hughes, who was across the street in the Dairy Queen parking lot. Hughes and Warren officers found the manager's car behind the Elm Road Plaza and the robbery suspect hiding in a garbage bin behind the plaza, reports state.
Niles woman chargedwith having crack pipe
NILES -- Cassandra A. Bradway, 38, of West Park Avenue was scheduled to be arraigned today in municipal court on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the police report, Bradway was in Kaufmann's on Saturday when police found a crack pipe on her.
Charged in threats
BROOKFIELD -- A New Castle, Pa., man was scheduled to be arraigned today in Trumbull County Eastern District Court on a charge stemming from threats allegedly made to co-workers.
Thomas Mortland, 36, of East Reynolds Street, was released from Trumbull County Jail during the weekend after posting a $1,000 bond.
Brookfield Police Chief Dan Faustino said co-workers at Oxford Automotive reported that Mortland told them last week that he was going to call off sick Friday and show up with a gun. When he did call off Friday, police were notified, and called Mortland, who came in voluntarily, Faustino said.
Bogus-check warning
HUBBARD -- City police are cautioning business owners about cashing payroll checks from General Motors Corp.
A $526 bogus check was cashed at a bar in the city recently. The name and Social Security number on the check were false and the check was drawn on National City Bank, where there was no such account. Detective Robert Altiere suggested today that business owners cash checks only for customers they know well.
Drug charges
SHARON, Pa. -- Police arrested Michael Golden, 42, of South State Line Road on a warrant charging him with possession and sale of crack cocaine. Golden turned himself in at the police station at 10 a.m. Saturday on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, conspiracy and criminal use of a communication facility (telephone) in the commission of a crime. He was accused of selling crack to an undercover agent June 29. He was arraigned before District Justice James McMahon and freed on an unsecured bond.
Temporary closing
YOUNGSTOWN -- West Rayen Avenue between West Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will be closed between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday so the city water department can do work near 763 West Rayen. The city is advising drivers to avoid the area. Detours will be posted.
