TRANSFER, PA. Electrical problem causes fire at home
No one was injured in the fire at the two-story structure that caused $350,000 damage.
TRANSFER, Pa. -- An electrical problem was blamed for a fire that destroyed a new home at 2099 Rutledge Road on Sunday.
Fire Chief James Biggart estimated the loss at $350,000, noting it was a large house that had just been built a couple of years ago.
The owner, Scott Weaver, and his wife and two children were out of town for the weekend and no one was home when the fire was spotted by a passer-by around 3:45 p.m., Biggart said.
The passer-by stopped at a neighbor's home to report the blaze and the neighbor called 911 before rushing to the Weaver house to make sure no one was there, Biggart said.
Fire was already coming through the roof of the two-story frame structure when the first fire crew reached the scene, Biggart said.
Helping out: Transfer firefighters got assistance from crews from Fredonia, Greenville, Hempfield Township, Hermitage and Jefferson Township, but they were unable to save the structure.
A few items, including a lawn tractor, were pulled from the attached garage before it was also destroyed by the flames, Biggart said.
The Weaver family returned home while firefighters were still at the scene, he said.
The fire started in a screened-in porch at the rear of the house and was caused by an electrical problem, Biggart said.
Firefighters remained at the scene until after 8 p.m. There were no injuries.
