Survivor to speak
CORTLAND -- Florence Roseman, a survivor of the torpedoing and sinking of the British liner HMS Athenia by a German submarine in 1939, will speak at 10 a.m. April 13 at the SCOPE Lake Vista Club at 303 N. Mecca St. Roseman now lives in Middleburg Heights. The Athenia was sunk the day England declared war on Germany. Of the 1,102 passengers, 112 were lost in the North Atlantic 250 miles west of Ireland. All seniors are invited to attend this program and are requested to bring food to share.
