Police to continue probe over dogs

YOUNGSTOWN -- Police who found one dead and three starving dogs at 1511 Parker St. Sunday afternoon returned to the East Side home today. The dogs were gone and the resident was not at home. Detective Sgt. Douglas Bobovnyik obtained an arrest warrant this morning for the resident, Zeriah Cheatham, charging him with three counts of animal cruelty and three counts of improper confinement of dogs. City Prosecutor Dionne Almasy signed the warrant.
No one answered the door at the residence Sunday when police arrived to check out a report of a pit bull running loose.
Officers provided water for the dogs and Patrolman Dan Mikus arrived with food for them.
Bobovnyik tied up the loose dog Sunday and used a pair of pliers to free another whose collar had caught on a chain link fence.
