NEW CASTLE All-star events begin Thursday



The featured event will be at 8 p.m. Friday, when the Ohio all-stars meet the Pennsylvania all-stars.
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Dallas W. Hartman Rising Star Basketball Classic will be held Thursday and Friday at New Castle High School.
The event will kick off on Thursday with a 3-point shooting contest and a slam dunk event at 7 p.m. There will also be an all-star exhibition game featuring players from the Lawrence-Mercer County Elementary League at 6 p.m.
Friday, there will be two games played with the Lawrence County All-Stars meeting the Beaver County stars at 5:30. The featured attraction will begin at 8 p.m. when the Ohio All-Stars meet the Pennsylvania All-Stars.
Tickets: Tickets for Friday's games are on sale at Joseph's Supermarket in downtown New Castle, Giant Eagle supermarkets on Wilmington Road and Butler Avenue and at New Castle High School.
Tickets for Friday's session are $7 for adults and $3 for students. Thursday's tickets are all $3 and will be on sale at the door.
Kareem Milson, a 6-foot-8 senior from The Rayen School, will be a member of the Ohio team, while Farrell High's Marcellino Manilla and George Junior's Karl Holmes will play for the Pennsylvania team.
The Ohio roster includes John Maddox (6-0) of Tallmadge, Jason Hicks (5-10) of Cleveland Villa Angela/St. Joseph, Aly Samabaly (6-2) of Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, Jake Steuer (6-3) of Stow, Ernie Cobbins (6-2) of Kent Roosevelt, Brodie Haer (6-8) of Massillon Jackson, Geoff Husted (6-9) of Massillon Perry, Mike Gansey (6-5) of Olmsted Falls, Dustin Kinney (6-6) of Wickliffe, Brandon Roach (6-8) of Bedford Heights and Steve Sorenson (6-7) of Western Reserve Academy.
The Pennsylvania roster includes Walt Chavis (6-0) of Steelton Highspire, Torrey Mitchell (5-10) of Erie Central, David Luber (6-0) of Hatboro-Horsham, Mike Mangel (6-4) of Union City, Nate Gerwig (6-8) of Schenley, Tyler Reynolds (6-9) of Athens, Ayyub Ali (6-5) of Williamsport, Blake Hamilton (6-8) of Central Dauphin, Rob Carrington (6-6) of West Mifflin, and Pat Carroll (6-6) of Hatboro-Horsham.
