Boy, 6, hit by truckwhile crossing street
EAST PALESTINE -- Mason Norman, 6, of 435 W. Martin Street, was in fair condition this morning at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. East Palestine police said Mason was struck by a pickup truck Saturday about 11:15 a.m. while attempting to walk across West Martin Street near his home. Police said the driver of the pickup wasn't cited.
Contempt sentence
LISBON -- A Warren attorney is appealing a contempt finding that resulted in her being ordered to serve a two-day sentence in the Columbiana County Jail. Atty. Toni Marcheskie is appealing the finding to the 7th District Court of Appeals.
Judge C. Ashley Pike of county common pleas court found Marcheskie in contempt Dec. 14 for failing to appear Oct. 26 at a sentence review hearing for a client. The jail sentence imposed on Marcheskie has been stayed pending her appeal.
Bigamy charge hearing
MERCER, Pa. -- Shawn P. Law, 32, of Woodside Drive, Grove City, was held for criminal court on bigamy and other charges after a preliminary hearing before District Justice Ruth French. Law turned himself in March 22 after learning a warrant had been issued for him on charges of bigamy, false swearing and perjury. Justice French ordered him held Monday for trial on all counts. Authorities said Law was already married to Irene Law when he married Cathy Law a year ago.
Panel OKs development
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The city planning commission has given its approval to a preliminary version of a land development plan for the 103-unit Eagle Point Condominiums project off Sample Road. Developer Dan Leali presented the proposal to the commission Monday, and it must now go to city commissioners for a public hearing. The 42-acre site is adjacent to a pair of single-family housing developments (Eagle Point and Eagle Point North) also developed by Leali.
Equipment stolen
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Police said this morning that someone broke into a fenced area behind M & amp;R Power Equipment at 2410 S. Hermitage Road. Items stolen were three lawn tractors valued at a total of $14,900, a Cronkhite utility trailer worth $1,500, a winch valued at $450 and a trailer hitch bar worth $50. A padlock was removed from the fence gate to gain access to the equipment Sunday night, police said. The missing lawn tractors are an Exmark Blaz er, a Kubota and a John Deere.
3 teens hurt in crashin Hanover Township
LISBON -- Three Pittsburgh teen-agers remained hospitalized this morning with injuries suffered in a two-car accident in Hanover Township. Lila Schantz, 17, a passenger in a car driven by Rachel Isaacson, 17, was in serious condition this morning in Akron City Hospital. Isaacson and another passenger, Anna Finley, 17, were taken to UPMC of Pittsburgh.
Information on their conditions was not available this morning. The patrol said Isaacson was westbound on U.S. 30 in Hanover Township on Monday morning when she lost control of her car on the crest of a hill. The car spun left of center and was struck by an eastbound pickup truck driven by Michelle R. Martin, 34, of Lisbon, the patrol said. Isaacson's car then went off the left side of the road over an embankment and into a field. The accident remains under investigation, and the accident report didn't indicate whether Martin was hurt.
Sex-related charges
SHARON, Pa. -- Jeffrey D. Slicker, 48, of Elm Avenue, remained in Mercer County Jail this morning on $25,000 bond after his arrest Monday on charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and statutory sexual assault. Police said Slicker is accused of having sexual contact with a 13-year-old boy from Ohio in Slicker's home on at least two occasions in January.
